2014-08-09 Unit 08, Medicine – English My Way, Learning Circles

Has anyone in your Learning Circle ever taken medicine? This time, Ayesha buys some medicine for her cold, but she can’t read the instructions. We learn some useful phrases for describing symptoms, asking for help and checking instructions.

Getting some medicine

Ayesha gets some medicine, but she can’t read the instructions. With your group, discuss the questions and try the activity.

Chemist
Hello. How can I help you?

Ayesha
Can you give me some medicine for a cold?

Chemist
Have you got a high temperature?

Ayesha
No. I’ve got a sore throat and a headache.

Chemist
A sore throat and a headache. You should take these. The instructions are on the back.

Discuss these questions with your group:

  • Where is your local chemist?
  • Have you ever been given medicine?
  • What should she do?
