Feifei
Rob 昨天去面试了一个新工作。So how did your interview go?

Rob
You know, quite good… ok… well not bad.

Feifei
太好了！So did you get the promotion?

Rob
Well… no. I didn’t… it was a bit of a slap in the face actually.

Feifei
A slap in the face? 什么？你被人打了一耳光？没得到工作，还被人打了一耳光？这是什么情况啊？

Rob
No, no. I mean not getting the job was a bit of an insult – I was the right man for the job – I mean look at all my qualifications and experience.

Feifei
Oh dear. You sound quite offended Rob.

Rob
That’s what ‘a slap in the face’ means.

Feifei

Rob
Exactly. Here are some more examples.
