2023-04-10 New UN climate report published 联合国发布新气候报告

There is some good news in today’s report. The scientists point out that the costs of many key, low-carbon technologies: solar power, wind turbines, and batteries have fallen dramatically in just the last decade.

今日发布的这份报告中有一些好消息：科学家们在报告中指出，太阳能、风力发电机和电池等许多关键低碳技术的成本在过去十年中大幅下降。

And they say, we can all take action on climate: eating a bit less meat, and walking and cycling a bit more will cut our emissions and make us healthier, they say.

But for many observers, the really worrying aspect of today’s report is the reliance it places on new technologies to suck carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The scientists say these will be needed to keep temperatures down in virtually all the scenarios they looked at.

但对许多观察家来说，这份报告中提出的一个应对气候变化的方法着实令人担忧，即依赖新技术吸除大气中的二氧化碳。科学家们表示，在他们研究的、几乎所有可能发生的情况下，都需要这些新技术来控制气温的升幅。

The problem is these technologies are at a very early stage of development and are still very expensive. Given the urgency of the challenge the report says we face, that is not encouraging.
