lend an ear
listen sympathetically to someone who needs support

  • My best friend is always available to lend an ear when I feel down.

up to one’s ears in (something)
(something) is taking all your time and attention  

  • She’s up to her ears in wedding planning. She can’t think about anything else!

If you lend an ear, you listen sympathetically to someone who needs support.

And finally, if you’re up to your ears in something, it’s taking all your time and attention – you’re extremely busy and at capacity. 
 
I can’t go out tonight – I’m up to my ears in work!
