Love makes the world go round! There are a few phrases in English with the word ‘love’. Learn some of them here with Georgie and then practise using the quiz.

Phrases with ‘love’

fall in love

  • When I saw her get on with my family, I knew I’d fallen in love.

love at first sight  
feelings of love the first time you see or meet someone

  • When my parents met, it was love at first sight – they knew very quickly that they wanted to be together.

puppy love
romantic feelings for someone, usually felt by a teenager

  • My teenage son thinks he has found the love of his life at school, but it’s probably just puppy love.

love is blind  
when you love a person, you ignore their bad parts

  • I don’t usually like loud people, but I think she’s amazing. Love is blind.

If you fall in love with someone, you develop strong romantic feelings for them.
 
After a few months of dating, Maya and Sam fell in love.
 
So, that was after a few months, but love at first sight means you fall in love the first time you see or meet someone.
 
As soon as I saw her, I knew I’d like to marry her – it was love at first sight.
 
Puppy love refers to romantic feelings for someone, usually felt by a teenager.
 
The boyband has young fans, so most of their songs are about puppy love.
 
The expression love is blind means that when you love a person, you ignore their bad parts – you’re blinded by love.
